A missing measurement and a missing thing are not the same,
though they arrive at the desk looking identical and in the same handwriting.

For thirty weeks the file and the body have agreed at every checkpoint,
and I have been quietly taking the file to be the cause of the agreement.
This week they disagree,
and it emerges that I never once established which of the two was doing the reporting.
